What does it cost?

For event planners, Altruly costs absolutely nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Our e-cards, RSVPs and secure fundraising services are totally free. Charities and nonprofits who are signed up for access to the platform pay a fee to use the service.

Do donors to my fundraiser get tax-receipts for donations?

If eligible, we issue electronic tax receipts by email for all donations on behalf of the Charity or Nonprofit. If the donor has an existing Altruly account, tax receipts are downloadable at any time.

My tax receipt says that I donated to The Altruly Foundation. Why?

Some of the tax receipts for donations issued by this website are issued by The Altruly Foundation. This organization retains status as a Registered Charity in Canada under registration number #755780095RR0001. The Altruly Foundation processes any donations to any unclaimed charity profiles on https://altruly.com. The Altruly Foundation maintains direction and control of all of the funds processed through this website and disburse funds as directed by the donor to the selected qualified donee.

In short, The Altruly Foundation accepts donations and distributes them to the charity listed for this event. Because of The Altruly Foundation's registered charitable status and classification as a Public Foundation, it can issue tax-receipts for qualified donations. Also, The Altruly Foundation does not charge any fees to accept and disburse donations to any Canadian qualified donee.

To claim as a charity or nonprofit partner, create an account with us. If you are not involved with charity or nonprofit, but would like us to know about one that you are passionate about, let us know about it.

Are donations secure?

Security is our top priority at Altruly. We use industry standard SSL connections on our website to protect from wandering eyes on our website, and we don't store any private payment information in our database. We leave the payment processing to the experts over at Stripe.

FAQ for Charities and Nonprofits

I'm not ready to claim my organization profile yet. What happens to my donations?

The Altruly Foundation is a registered charity in Canada (BN #755780095RR0001) that operates a donor-advised fund for donations to Canadian qualified donees, and works with Altruly to process all donations to unclaimed organization profiles in our database. The Altruly Foundation accepts the donated funds, issues eligible tax-receipts and disburses the proceeds periodically to the qualified donees as directed by the donor. Once you claim your organization profile on Altruly, your organization will receive donations directly through our platform and tax-receipts will be issued on your behalf with our software.

Does my organization qualify to partner with Altruly?

Altruly is open to any Canadian Registered Charity or Canadian Qualified Donee as defined by the Canada Income Tax Act . Upon completion of this registration, an Altruly representative will verify that your organization qualifies and will activate your account (typically within 1-2 days).

Qualified donees in Canada are defined as the following:

A qualified donee is an organization that can issue official donation receipts for gifts it receives from individuals and corporations. It can also receive gifts from registered charities. A qualified donee can be:

  • a registered charity (including a registered national arts service organization)
  • a registered Canadian amateur athletic association
  • a registered housing corporation resident in Canada constituted exclusively to provide low-cost housing for the aged
  • a registered Canadian municipality
  • a registered municipal or public body performing a function of government in Canada
  • a registered university outside Canada that is prescribed to be a university, the student body of which ordinarily includes students from Canada
  • a registered charitable organization outside Canada to which Her Majesty in right of Canada has made a gift
  • Her Majesty in right of Canada, a province, or a territory
  • the United Nations and its agencies
  • Other organizations as defined by the Canada Income Tax Act

What does it cost?

Altruly is, and always will be, free for fundraiser hosts. For nonprofits, we have a number of plans for every budget, including a free one. View our plans.

Do my donors get tax-receipts for donations?

If eligible, we issue electronic tax receipts on your behalf (i.e. the tax receipt contains your organization's business information, not ours) by email for all donations on behalf of the Charity or Nonprofit. If your donor created an Altruly account, they will always be able to download copies of their tax-receipts at any time.

Are donations secure?
